renault clio timing belt breakage
Hi
damage as far as I can see is 5 bent valves. Small crescent shaped marks on pistons look superficial. Pistons appear to all rise to same height so by eye no bent con rods I think.
My question is when there is a timing belt failure on a clio (1149cc engine 1998) is the damage normally confined to only bent valves or is piston/con rod damage likely.
Would hate to do a full top end overhaul, only to find that con rods are bent, bad vibration and engine shaking itself to bits.
What is the usual damage as a result of the timing belt failure on this car?
