Does anyone know why the Patak's glass jar vindaloo sauce is so hard to come by? Our local Tesco no longer stock it and Sainsbrys advertise it on their website sometimes, but rarely have it in store.

Our local corner shop sells tinned Patak's Vindaloo, but can't seem to find the jar one anywhere!

Thanks

yeah it doesn't work - go to products & do a search for vindaloo, there's 3 types

Thanks jd, I know what exists, as I said in the question we can get the paste, but not the glass jarred sauce anymore! It's a handy link to have though as I am that sad I may end up emailing the company :-)
Try Asda, Morrisons, Waitrose or Sainsburys as they're listed as stockist of the jar format.
Supermarkets stock products that they know will sell. Obviously if the vindaloo is less popular, they'll use their shelf space to stock a variety that has a faster turnover. It's the same with sachets of Blue Dragon stir-fry sauces, the Teriyaki is hardly ever available in most supermarkets.
I have found Sainsbury's quite reliable for this, but it varies from branch to branch. If I see it, I buy two. The pastes are actually better, but the jar is so convenient. If you buy Patak's vindaloo paste, look for the smaller description, e.g. "tomato and chilli", it makes quite a difference.

Do not be tempted to try ASDA own-brand vindaloo sauce. It's on the lower shelves and deservedly so because it is horrible.

Thanks enfable but we do not have an asbda, waitrose or morrisons near us, and as I said in the question our Sainsburys rarely have it in stock, despite it being on their website.

Thanks heathfield, i guess that makes sense but on the occassions that Sainsburys have hd it on their shelves there are only one or two left, yet all the other sauces are still sat there!

Thanks Gormless, last time we were in Sainsburys we bought four! Our local corner shop sells the paste so I will stock up on that in future, thanks for the tip!
could you not ask the supermarket to get some in for you? you could buy the whole pack?

LOL - Thanks JD, I could, and I might. I was only asking really to see if anyone else had noticed if / why it had gone from the shelves x

This post makes me sound like a vandaloo junkie....must.... get.... spices.....
I would always rather support a local independent Asian grocer than Tescos - my local one usually has Pataks Vindaloo paste but if they don't I buy Ferns. Different, but just as good.

By the way - is it me or is Pataks Vindaloo paste a shadow of what it used to be? It seems rather bland these days.
