my son has recently had his tonsils and adenoids removed and im giving him calpol and childrens nurofen,but they dont seem to help much.is there anything stronger that i can buy over the counter?

No, don't try anything other than what vyou are using. The pain is due to spasm of the muscles of the soft palate and the way to relieve this spasm is to try and make him eat, not soft foods but normal foods. Not easy I appreciate, but it will pay dividends in the long run.
