So what's with this Conficker virus? Something we should be scared of or just another April Fool's joke?

It seems to be real enough but as long as you have adequate up to date anti-virus you should be ok
I think it's an April Fools joke. See www.twitter.co.uk.

Well I'm still confused now. I have virus protection and haven't seen anything strange. I'll make sure I get an update tonight though, just to be on the safe side.

What happened to your username Billy? Have you been a naughty boy?
Err ..well I told a Jade Goody joke before it was fashionable & was disappeared with no explanation .
Conficker is NOT an April Fools joke.

Symantec (who own Norton) dont seem to think so

As an addittion to what BilluSugger said about anti virus, it is also just as important to have your Windows Update up-to-date.

Microsoft fixed the "hole" used by this virus last October 2008 so you should make sure you have all your Windows and Office fixes installed.
Microsoft dont think it is an April fools joke either

The thing is with worms (viruses) like this is that they can sit dormant on your PC for months or years without doing anything, then they can spring to life and wreck their havoc.

So install all your Windows fixes, and install and run anti virus software, and install and run spyware / malware software as well.

Thanks for that VHG. I'm all updated and patched like a quilt now.

Sorry to hear that Billy, I rather liked your jokes.
I spent last weekend disinfecting computers for people who didn't have automatic updates installed and also had no antivirus: I didn't think it was a joke - and nor did they when they got my bill.
NO, its not a april fool but its a virsu that harm your computer.

The Conficker worm / virus also known as Downadup infection, is actually a virus code programmed in such a way that it can infect your computer and spread itself to other computers across a network automatically, without human interaction.

Most anti virus software could detect and block the Conficker worm, so if you have updated anti virus software on your computer, you are at a much lower risk of being infected by the Conficker worm.
