This is the kind of thing anarchist the world over do. It is a bit late to discover that anarchists want to throw the rules away.
Most of these protestors are British so it is a bit silly getting upset with the French. No we should not boycott french goods.
They are allowed their protest, but if they break the law, then they will be arrested and deported back here.
The police (in France) already have enough powers to deal with protests of this sort.
They have picked a nice day for it, I might look when their next demo is a book a holiday on that date.

I heard this on Radio 4 and saw it on TV yesterday, Bobbi. Now I've just read the entire article from The Mail.
All three versions of events seem remarkably consistent. All three seem to be simply reporting the facts as they occurred.
How does the Mail's version amount to "sensationalism"? Or is the very fact that reports of such events are published at all sensational?

The only other newspaper running this story at the moment is the Sun. They handle it quite differently than the Mail..
The Sun headline is:
Cops foil UK surge
The Mail headline is:
Riot police descend on Calais as anarchists incite migrants to 'tear down border controls and make for Britain
http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/news/2497 386/Cops-foil-anarchists-helping-asylum-seeker s-storming-Channel-Tunnel.html
Can you spot which is the more sensationalist?
Can you spot which is designed to make its readers' blood boil?

I was looking at the Mail Online article which chas had kindly provided, gromit. (Riot police protect Channel Tunnel as anarchists threaten to tear down borders and head for Britain).
As I understand it from the other reports that Id seen and heard that is exactly what happened. The riot police were employed to protect the tunnels security, anarchists had announced that they wished to see the border controls between the UK and France scrapped, and many of them had intended to head for Britain (where many of them originate from anyway) bringing some would be immigrants with them.
I dont see any sensationalism. Perhaps it would be more convenient if we were not informed of these events at all.
As for the Sun, well it always uses shorter words as a rule, so I understand.

Riot police massed
I see half a dozen police vans in the photo
It followed the arrival of hundreds of anarchists
Again I see half a dozen kids outside a couple of tents
Where are the hundreds - did the Mail think we didn't need to see the pictures of them?
Squadrons of elite officers joined gendarmes in the show of strength near Calais
Where are they?
Read the article and compare with the pictures
Something wrong n'est-pas?

This does seem to be the Daily Mail AGAIN going over the top.
However, it would be interesting if these so called anarchists were in their own home and 50 people burst through the front door and demanded to live there.
Be interesting to see how they reacted.
"Yes sure, come in, make yourself at home, help yourself to anything in the fridge".
Idiots.

>I have 6 grandsons between 1 & 10 and i am gunuinely >worried what the future in this country holds for them.
I live in Birmngham.
A week or so back I went up to the town centre early in the morning (9.30a.m.).
I went into the Bull Ring shoping centre which was pretty deserted at that time.
There were a number of young kids (primary school) doing a school trip (they all had clipboards and were looking at the different shops).
They were in four groups of about 12 kids in each.
As I walked passed each group I cound not help noticing the complete lack of white kids.
Most were asian, black, chinese etc.
I would say out of the 50 or so kids about 3 were white.
I have to say it scared the h*ll out of me, what the future of this country holds.
A future where in some cities to be white you will be in the minority (we are almost there in cities like Leicester and Birmingham).
Still I suppose if the whites are the ethnic minority we can campaign for all the benefits and support the immigrants get now.
We can have a "White Gospel Choir" and a "White Police Force association" and a "White Radio station" (like the Asians have their own radio station on BBC).

one more thing......
I was in the centre of Birmingham the other day, sitting on a pavement cafe having a break.
A school party came past, about 6 or 7 years olds, with their clip boards, on a school trip.
As these 30 or so kids went past I noticed that NOT ONE OF THEM WAS WHITE.
They were Asian, chinese, black, and so on. NO WHITE KIDS.
I sat there and thought "this is the future of our country".
How sad we have let this happen.
What is it suppose to prove? That a class in the centre of one of our most racially diverse cities, has a lot of non white children in it. So what. There are many classes without a single black child in it. It depends where you live.

Gromit...
"There are many classes without a single black child in it. It depends where you live. "
15yrs ago a national newspaper came to take a photograph of one of a class in which my grandson was a pupil. When it was discovered that the whole class was white and the teacher refused to "find" a coloured pupil, the photoshoot was cancelled.
VHG has a sincere point.

Just to save you following anymore classes of schoolchildren, Birmingham is still 70% white. Black and Asian make up 26%.
