Days out in essex???

hiya im planning on not sitting around a lot in the holidays and wondered what would anyone suggest as a day out for two adults(females) two girls 11 and 10 and a little one yr old boy? Im hoping to stick to some sort of budget so free would be better anywhere in essex or on the borders would be great with thanx x

Tropical Wings is great, and possibly Marsh Farm but maybe too young for the two girls. There is the Discovery Centre at Great Notley near Braintree or you could spend the day at Promenade Park in Maldon, we used to have smashing days down there with my Niece and Nephews.

What about Colchester Zoo, or was that too obvious? or maybe too expensive?
