mammogram recall

hi. my mum had a routine mammogram done 10 days ago and has just received a letter for a further one on monday which lasts half the day and includes a ultrasound. Does this mean she might have cancer? i'm worried because she has had shoulder pain for some time and apparently this can be a symptom.Pehaps they've recalled her in so soon because this is likely??? I'm so frightened because i love and depend on my mum so much. she is only 57 but also a smoker :(. has anyone else had a similar experience?thanks

Because in Accrington, about 300 patients have been recalled for further scanning due to "dodgy" reporting by a Radiologist who has just "scarpered"

Yes, she might have cancer, but on the other hand she might not.

I have had many re-calls on mammograms and had ultrasounds and fine needle aspirations and biopsies and have never had a problem. All these things need to checked out but worrying wont help.try and look on the bright side these tests are to check there are no problems and aren't we lucky to be able to have them . :o)

I was recalled after my very first mammogram and was in a total panic. After the follow up, what had shown up as a lump was a build up of calcium which was totally natural. I am a non smoker.
My 70 year old aunt - a smoker- has been recalled three times because of lumps which turned out to be non cancerous. That is not to say that smoking is not doing her any harm. She has been lucky but she will not stop smoking and my fear is that the next one will be cancerous.
If this was my mum I would tell her that even if this turns out ok this time that giving up cigarettes could prevent something more serious.
