Is This Bullying at work?
9 Answers
There's this woman at work who is sort of in charge but is not the manager
Anyway, most of the time she is reasonably ok, but sometimes she comes out with somethings which i cant believe and end up laughing off as i cant believe it and not standing up for myself
Today i was making cakes in the kitchen at work, there was an event on so we needed helpers,
the woman introduced me like this....This is Jenny, she responds well when you shout at her.
she is always coming out with things like this but laughs her head off when she says them as if she has no clue how it actually sounds, i cannot say anything so the manager as she is envolved with him(out of marriage) and wouldnt do anything anyway as he is a wimp and buries his head all the time

dot-i am the cook where i work, she thinks she is-she used to cover when cooks in the past have been ill etc and she has done a 'posh' cooking course in the past-not a cook though! She just likes to think that she knows it all etc
Sara-standing up to her would be easy but the way she would insult you would either be without you knowing until you think about the conversation afterwards or she does it in front of other people to make herself look inmportant and to make me feel stupid
Dixiegal-you hit the nail on the head! I cook for schools that come and stay with us for a week, anything from 10 people up to 50, i do all the cooking-main meal and pudding as well as doing them a packed lunch each-cakes sandwiches sausage rolls etc for the following day-i am contracted to 25 hours a week-5 a day which also includes serving the meal and cleaning up afterwards, i have to work really fast to keep up most of the time, but the way she describes herself to the groups i am convinced that she tells them that she does the cooking and packed lunches etc as on a friday when they leave the only person that ever gets praise is her. I never get a well done or anything like that, i am not looking for a pat on the head all the time but for someone to just go, yo did well, well done ever once in a while would be nice!

Put a menu up for the evening meal and call things Jenny's this and Jenny's that; they'll soon realise who the cook is! She has an inferiority complex so needs to come over as someone more important than she is, I'd just 'feel sorry' for her, poor dear, and when she makes remarks like that just say 'you are so funny' and laugh!
I would give you the same advice as Dr. Captain Vibrasphere of The Angry Pirates: tell her you have a good sense of humour, but this kind of joke is a bit over the top. I would also advise you to look for another job. Lucky for you that you only work pt, I've had to put up with bullying like this in the past, and I came home completely drained and feeling very very low.
Good luck!
