I burnt sprouts once - we'd just got our first microwave and I didn't really know how to work it but was determined to cook everything in it. It smelled like someone had lit the foulest fart on earth....
i was trying to defrost a ciabatta in the microwave, had it set to defrost and put it on for about a minute, sat down lookin at telly, then got this burning smell. Went over to the microwave and opened the door and the microwave was burning a great big hole in the centre of the ciabatta!!! Smoke and everything piling out of the microwave, had to take the ciabatta and throw it out on the balcony and pour a glass of water over it hahaha havent had ciabatta since!!
Haha....I put some micro chips in once. Thought I'd set it for 3mins but actually set it for 30mins. My house was really big at the time. Anyway...I went into the living room and promptly forgot about them. Thought I heard a bang but didn't pay much attention. About 10 mins later I got the smell. Ran to the kitchen and the microwave was on fire....
Well glenda.being an 86 year old(me) and 85 year old(wife,I suppose we come from a genration that cooks everything the old way?
Elsie prepares all our meals from scratch,so I think she likes doing it(genuinely) and has never had the desire to get a microwave.
Our family have offered us one,but we just aren't interested.
Anyway, when you get to our age you want things to slow down, not speed up!
PS:~
We DO have a (top of the range) Mobile phone(each),so we aren't THAT backward! LOL
I only got a microwave a year ago - like you Mr. V. I prefer to cook from scratch and just use the microwave for warming my son's dinner up when he comes in late.
Popcorn. Hubby bought some home but it smelt so disgusting I couldn't eat it. I cleaned the microwave but for about a month after I could still smell it every time I used the microwave.
