A sad love story.

It was about four years ago when I stumbled upon a love story that I could never forget. The problem is I can't seem to find it. The story begins with two children who are brought up in two very difficult environments. A boy, son of a leader of the Yakuza Gang meets a young girl from an abusive family when he's caught stealing and she's comes to patch up the injuries he receives. The boy cannot understand why she would help a complete stranger and thinks her stupid, and yet he and her start growing close. Later they plan to escape their lives by boat, but someone sabotages it and kills her, or so he's lead to believe. Years pass and she returns disguised as a new Yakuza wannabe seeking to join him. In the end she joins and dies from a shooting targeted at him. He holds her as she passes away on the beach. She throws a rock over the water and they watch it skip once, twice, three times. It was their own way of saying "I love you". Does anyone know where I could find that story?
