I thought it better to move to a new thread - but if you read Bobbi's comment on the previous Today Is The Day Thread about the latest solider to be killed in Afghanistan, and his father being in the pub.

How absolutely dreadful. Bobbi, I would have been affected just the same was as you.

I watched the BBC news last week with the latest 3 lads being brought back home, and the parade through Wootton Bassett. I cried my eyes out. How many more f.f.s.? I am so thankful I don't have the worry of a child being out there in Afghanistan. I would be immensely proud of them, but would live in fear and dread every day.

What a sad story Bobbi.

My auntie sold her house to a young couple (it was there first home) who were excitedly ripping up carpets the moment she handed them the keys. A few months later, she bumped into the young woman and asked how they were getting on. He was posted to Afghanistan about a fortnight after they moved into her old home, and he was killed there. She says she'll never forget the excitement on their faces at having bought their first house, and can bear to think that the dream ended for them just weeks later.
Thanks ruthann, I can't get that poor mans sadness out of my head, he was heartbroken and in a world of his own,I believe the lad had just been named and will be one of those brave young men to come back for repatriation in the next few days, he belongs Whickham, David Watson..RIP

A tragic waste of life - whatever their age. But it's the 18, 19 year olds that really get to me - they've barely begun their life and it's all over.
