Why,no mater what,does food taste better

when someone else has prepared/cooked it for you?From the humble piece of toast to the full roast,it always taste better when you haven't had to cook or prep it.Is this why you can never quite re create that wonderful restaurant meal you had,no matter how much you like cooking or why someone else's roast/curry etc is always nicer.
I wonder if this may go back in some way to when we where ill as children and mum/dad always would try and get you to eat your favorite thing......them where the days,my mum was the best at roast chicken sandwiches when chicken tasted like chicken,not plastic!

Because you are used to your mother's cooking so, when she's gone (i.e. "no mater"), it tastes different...

A couple of heaped tablespoons of MSG will sort that...
Boiled ham doesn't taste better regardless of who cooks it.
It tastes better because you....

1) don't have to prep it
2) you don't pick and taste as you go along
3) the aromas don't make you feel like you've eaten

The Army did a survey once, and found that of all their troops, the cooks were the least well fed - as it turned out, it was for the very reasons given by Ummmm.
I suppose when you go to all the bother of making it, it does seem to taste somewhat less satisfying seeing you put lots of work into it.
I, however, like cooking for myself...
