Putting my head above the parapet again ? the recent disclosure by the foreign office of a memo regarding the popes visit for example to launch a range of Benedict condoms I find deeply offensive I thought we were a tolerant society I am aware of the scandal ongoing regarding child abuse.
All catholics in England and Wales will be praying on the four fridays in May for reperation and atonement and for all who have suffered abuse they are the personal sins of a very few but we have to accept that their sins touch every Catholic
Full co-operation with statutory bodies is now ongoing and we will continue to be vigilant.
As father John said in church yesterday WHO WOULD BE A PRIEST these days we had a young priest in training who was accused of abuse later found to be malicous and unfounded is this how we carry on we have lost a fine young man who will never return to the church
As a devout catholic I sincerely hope that when they see priests in the dock they will call off the dogs

To be fair....the priests should have been in the dock many years ago.

I'm Catholic.
"the recent disclosure by the foreign office of a memo regarding the popes visit for example to launch a range of Benedict condoms I find deeply offensive"

Really? I find it more offensive that he assisted in covering up the abuse until he was forced to go public! the authorities should arrest him as soon as he steps foot on UK soil.
It wasn't a memo, as such.
It was composed by a 'junior' as an inter-departmental joke and was unfortunately leaked.
An error or judgement ? -certainly.
A hanging offence ? - ridiculous, utterly ridiculous.
I would suggest that the Catholic Church and the Papacy has far more serious matters to which they ought to turn their attention than a silly, juvenile e-mail.
To be honest it's not just the catholic priests either..........I remember back in the 70's there were quite a few vicars in the Hull area found guilty of child abuse, the problem is the catholic church covered their mess up.
To be fair - Ratzenburger is culpable of conspiracy and abetting the abuse of children by many members of the catholic church over many years.

4 Fridays in May won't make up for the victims suffering or the trauma they have suffered since.

I find it deeply offensive that the scumbag should be allowed into our country and I think the moment he sets foot on these shores he should be arresed and thrown in jail, which is where he belongs.

I'd be interested in seeing your evidence for this Dave
Re memo. Seems to be that whole swathes of the population need to get a sense of humour. Society seems to be getting totally unreasonable since the PC brigade got taken seriously. The words "storm" and "teacup" seem to spring to mind. I try to be sympathetic to others' points of view but there has to be limits. We'd all be better off if some folk opted not to get offended by irrelevances.
My old man is devout RC and found it hilarious. When we lose the ability to laugh at ourselves then we start to die as a culture.

The point is if that leaked memo was aimed at a Muslim there would be blood on the streets why was nobody disciplined for it ?
He was disciplined !
He has been sternly warned and moved from that department.

What more would you like to see done to someone who wrote an e-mail to amuse himself and his mates that then found its way to the press ?
"I thought we were a tolerant society"

We are tolerant.

Sadly, the Catholic Church are NOT tolerant ...

... which is why they are making such a major issue about something that was just a bit of fun.

The Vatican is a sense of humour free zone !

Incidentally, having said on here many times that I always had the greatest respect for previous Popes ...

I was mortified this weekend to read that His Holiness John Paul II was also complicit in covering up a child raping Priest in France.

I had, until this weekend, thought that only Benedict was a scoundrel.
Now think hard about this one ....
Would you trust a catholic priest to baby sit your children ?
I certainly would not !

These people are evil !
