What Is Wrong With My Belly Button Piercing?
53 Answers
I have had my belly button pierced for about 6 years now. I recently took it out and left it out for about a week because i had lost the ball to my bar & it was the only one i had. I put the bar through everyday and left it in for a bit to make sure it didn't close up. Now it absolutely kills me! It seems to be really tight & i think it is closing up! It only hurts when i have the bar in. The actual hole (the bit of skin the covers the bar) just goes red as soon as i put the bar in & it's really hard to put in & take it out. I have been cleaning it with salt water every day, just once a day. It just hurts & i want to know whats wrong & i really don't want it to close up. Help! x

Leave the bar out, keep it clean and use a decent antibacterial wash like Savlon wound wash to try and prevent any infection during healing. Keep it covered with a suitable dressing to prevent anything getting into it or irritating it and check regularly.
If it doesn't look like it is healing properly and stays red and sore or swollen or just doesn't look right then get to the doctors sharpish to get it checked out in case of infection.
You are young so at least your skin has more of a chance at healing up. Don't risk getting a nasty infection and possible a permanent reminder just for the sake of keeping the piercing!
Do not pierce it again yourself!
