Cat Separating Foxes in Garden
13 Answers
The wierdest thing happened last night. I have four foxes in my garden (see my previous thread with photo of three of them !) They all come round every evening and eat the scraps. Anyway last night, the young pup was eating something and mummy fox came over, he snarled at her as she was trying to eat some of the food, and he turned his back on her, she snarled back at his face and tried to eat his food. Then my cat ran over (he is ginger and the same size as foxes) and sort of stood between them to stop them arguing and almost it seemed to let the pup carry on eating ! Luckily they just ran in opposite directions. I was worried they would go for my cat but they didn't. Normally he just sits on the grass and waits for them, usually the foxes keep their distance from him. They just seem to accept each other. I sometimes think my cat wants to play with them, so I call him in. I wonder if he doesn't see any danger or just has an instinct that they wouldn't hurt him.

He's very lucky. If we hadn't have chosen him, I dread to think what would have happened to him. He's got a mad streak and is a biter. Got puncture marks and long scratches on the backs of my legs where he has a mad moment before he runs off and has a wash. If people come round for a party we have to put him in the cattery ! A scatty cat.
Like mange. We used to have foxes come into our garden when we lived in Sutton, and rub around a tree in the garden, and ended up with 2 out of three dogs with mange. We also ended up with a large dog fox on top of our first floor extension roof coming after one of our cats who had caught a pigeon. It came right up to the window and sniffed around, but our other big tabby cat hissed at him and he jumped onto the shed roof and disappeared. Hope that your cat continues to shield your pup from them.
