Are there ANY (!) circumstances in which you would not stand by your real friends ?

If so ... what would be your idea of a "true friend" ?

Just wondering !

If you have a true friend you would always be there for them unless they did
something well bad and dumped on you from a great height ...
would not support a friend who is married and having an affair with another married person."partner"
yes if i thought what he/she was doing was illegal in a big way drug pushing or anything to do with child cruelty
true friends arent defined by computer, I would stand by a true friend whatever.

Where to draw the line ?

I think you'd have to stick by a friend unless they were really, really, really bad.
rosetta....even if they were involved in a murder???
a 'true' friend - i would stand by
gonzo, I know my friends and are sure they would not be involved in a murde
r
i've had some friends do some pretty bad things...would still stand by them tho...

allright gonz...how's you?
For me a true friend would be someone whom I can trust unconditionally. Whoever they are or whatever they do /did would not come between our friendships. But, the minute they start being insincere or deceitful then I’d not consider them to be a 'true' friend. When I regard someone as my friend I’d be there for them under ANY and ALL circumstances but not dishonesty.
There may always be times when even a 'True' friend does something unforgivable

A true friend is one who will listen as you unburden yourself and not interrupt or give advice unless asked, you can tell them your deepest darkest worries and fears without worrying they will tell. In short they are a great big hug.
spot on mamy. I find it difficult to establish that personal link tho
I will always stand by a real friend - no matter what. That doesn't mean I would/could ignore what they have done, even if I had to call the police. For me, a true friend is someone I can turn to - no matter what. True friendship is unconditional in my book
So, ttfn, imagine you had a young child and you found out your 'true friend' had been sexually abusing that child. Would you still stand by them?

That would be the killer of friendship for me, if I found out my friend had physically or sexually abused a child (mine or someone elses).
daffy I know that wasn't directed to me nut illustrates what I meant when I said there may be times you could not forgive.
Question Author
Are we delving into the margins of loyalty here ?
That would indeed take some fertile imagination daffy. I believe that my faith and trust in a real friend would not be misplaced so such a heinous action would mean severe health problems. The op was asking about real and true friends. If only I could prevent health problems I doubt I would answering this.
^ be answering this
mamya - I understand but I did not say I would unconditionally forgive. Everyone, I am sure, has a line to be drawn on this subject. I am merely saying that I would do anything I could do to get such a friend the help they needed.
Oh I agree with that too, and yes would try to help, but the example given would surely test most of us to our utmost limits.
But, sometimes, friendship does mean being tested to limits ♥
