How do you to peel cooking apples ?

I have been given a big bag of cooking apples and I thought I would try making something out of them but I found peeling them a difficult chore. So I've been experimenting with different ways of doing it and the only way that worked was by boiling them up until the outer skin was starting to come off and then removing it whilst it was still very hot, difficult to do being so hot but it it worked.
However does anyone know a better way please.

Sharp knife...
Yes modeller ummmm is right a good small sharp knife. What a peculier way you're trying. You've got to have patience too if theres a lot to do. Slice them up into a large bowl of water which you've added a tablespoon of salt, this will stop them going brown. drain & wash the salt off them when you've done dab them dry with a tea towel, seperate them out into lots & store in the freezer and use as you want them.

Thanks for your suggestions. I was using a razor sharp knife and a potato peeler but it still was a very slow process that's why I tried other methods . I like the idea of freezing . Can you also freeze the whole apple ?
The Lakeland peeler sounds OK in theory but I can visualise problems with irregular shaped apples. I could try it on my lathe though , that might work if I turn it by hand.
It's fun trying .
A bit more useful advice! Peel the apple whole and then cut vertically down close to the core 4 times, ie on each side - you are left with a square shaped core and then cut pieces again to desired size. The bits are a bit irregular but fine if you are going to stew or use in a pie. Also an apple segmenter works well if you have one (again peel apple whole first).
I use lemon juice in the water to stop the apples going brown. I've just been given about 3 kilos of bramley cooking apples, I've sorted out the slightly bruised ones or damaged ones to use first. I've peeled them with a sharp knife, boring, but it's the only way. Yesterday I washed two apples, cored them but didn't peel them, I just scored the apple all the way around, filled them with sultanas, sugar, pinch of nutmeg (or cinnamon) and drizzled honey into the hole as well, I put a little water into the bottom of the cooking dish and cooked them for about 30min (depending on size.)
I can see gran you are of the old school, my old mum used to bake apples too.
Now-a-days you can do 'em just the same in a microwave (about 4 mins) fresh cream drizzled over - delish....

I always use an apple corer and then peel using a normal everyday potato peeler.
or a vegetable peeler.
My mum used to peel them starting from the top and going round and round so that the peel ended up as one long curly strip.

My daughter came round today and peeled them in 5 minutes. I think I was trying to peel them too thinly so the blade kept coming off the apple , she cut deeper which removed far more of the apple but that appears to be the way to do it.
