I had breakfast with a mate of mine and his wife and the topic of conversion was that their 10year old son who attends a Catholic School had been given sex lessons with video support on sex, both for procreation and for sexual pleasure. The child who is super intelligent ( which isnt?) asked specific questions about the sexual act of his parents.
Now, the main bone of contention was that if the sexual education was THAT graphic and specific, shouldn´t the school have described or indeed mentioned....contraception?
its standard catholic teaching, they broach contraception briefly in secondary school when the kids have matured enough to absorb it. I went to a catholic school and rightly or wrongly they didnt make any bones about where they stood about sex education, you were almost frowned on if you lingered on the subject of contraception.
Seeing as the boy seems mature and doesn't come from a catholic family and seems comfortable talking about it to his parents, couldn't his parents teach him about contraception if the school won't and they want him to be safe?
Perhaps I'm old fashioned here but yes I agree with sex education but at 10 years old? and I think a bit too young for the graphic stuff.
I think its 13 over here isn't it? and the parents have to sign to agree that they think their child is ready for this.
In the context of sex lessons describing the act, whether for procreation or pleasure, I don't think contraception is a necessary element. In the same way it would not be necessary to detail homosexual practices, bondage or other sexual activities, or for that matter the dangers of unprotected sex.
