Brando & Cox - just good friends?

It is well-known that matinee hunk Marlon Brando and bespecatcled wimp Wally Cox roomed together in their early careers, and remained lifelong friends. Given that Brando kept Cox's cremated ashes at home until his own death, whereupon they were scattered together in Death Valley - can we assume that they were a gay couple? Various sites hint at this, obviously mindful of libel laws, so is the truth out at last, or am I putting two and two together?

I wouldn't worry about libel laws. As far as I can remember, you can't actually libel the dead.
