I've recently moved into a house, which i am renting.

The carpets are red, but have faded so much, they are nearly a dirty white colour!

I got someone in to clean them to see if it would make it any better, but made no difference atall..!!

Should my landlord replace the carpets or should I???

Also...

The washing machine is buggered, i opened the door of it, and it came off, Do I replace the washing machine, or should me landlord??

carpets: do they really need replacing or would you just prefer to have nicer ones? If they REALLY need replacing, LL should pay
washing machine : is it a furnished flat? LL should pay

if you have rented the flat as 'furnished' and the property is part of your rental agreement then I would imagine its the landlords responsibility

technically though as far as the washing machine is concerned, the door coming off wont make it buggered, you can order a new door and fit it. I would imagine the LL would take this sort of action

The carpet is so bad, you wouldn't feel comfortable bringing guests in, it looks, dirty, and untidy!

The washing machine on the otherhand, looks like its about 20 years old, and not only the doors is broken it didn't wash the clothes properly either, but now the door has broken to make it worse!!

didnt you view the property before deciding to rent it? pop some rugs down, i cant see the landlord changing the carpets.

They ought to repair the washing machine if it was part of what you rented

have to agree - if you have recently moved in, it must have been like that when you looked round

Yes it is furnished...!

I thought it was dirt that was in the carpet, and it would come out once i got someone in to clean in, but it didn't do a thing, its just pure faded!

There is a rug, which is just as bad!

a faded carpet is still a carpet.
Take a look in argos, your local market stall or places like ikea for a new rug. Keep the other one for when you leave the property. Oh and take photos of everything now so that, when you do leave, you can prove that you left the place as you found it.

If it WAS dirt in the carpet-then maybe you should have mentioned that to the landlord before you signed a lease-made cleaning of it a condition of you taking on a tenancy. It should not be your responsibility to clean what's already there.

Nope i didn't, so i made a new one, and yes mum i live in the middle of nowhere, and have no argos, and yes the town is about a 2 hour walk!

Plus i havn't signed the lease yet, but it is sitting infront of me, waiting to be signed!

You need to go round the house and make a list of anything that's wrong.

No, just the sitting room is red...(was red should I say) the hall is a wierd patterned carpet! quite old fashioned, but its ok, looks alot better now its cleaned!

Well then say to the landlord that you'll sign it if be does something about the carpets and washer.

there's a few things i'd change if i could, they replaced an open fire with a gas fire!!! i mean c'mon whats wrong with them...

if i get my way, i'm gonna have it taken out again, its only one pipe that has to be blocked off!! then back to turf!!!!

the washine machine is actually f xxxx d, Toms Dad had a look at it today, needs replacing thats about it really, the house it fine apart from that!

Probably best you get some nice rugs then. Is there much else wrong with the house? How are you getting on with the range?
