How come at roughly 6-7pm last night, Tescos was nearly empty of people?

Because they all had enough food already.

We and even people on here said that they'd finished all of there left overs though so i wouldn have thought more people in the real world would have aswell and would want to egt fresh stuff in for new years parties.

It will probably be madder later today, I made the mistake of going to one of the massive Asdas to get some goodies last new year's eve, never again, it was like the world had gone mad! The checkout girl said it was worse than before Christmas.
