I have been asked to help a friend of my husband by teaching him English (he is from Lithuania). He has been attending classes at the local college but has found them to be difficult to understand as the teacher is from Pakistan and has a very strong accent. His current level of English is pretty basic and I am wondering if there are any recourses available on line that I could use to help him. Thanks in anticipation.
i dont know about courses but just being around someone speaking english helps a lot.... my husband only knew very basic english when we met ... he only used his own languages to speak to people...... i didnt know any of his language so the first few months we chatted using dictionaries, drawings, and used our hands a lot...... his english just got better and...
Another incentive to learning the language is not to use foreign 'mother tongue' channels on satellite TV. If he will engage with entertainment subjects in English, he'll come on rapidly.
Thanks everyone - I've found a "Dummies" book on the W H Smith website that looks promising so will get that for a start and will also try the BBC website that was suggested.

Have a look at this site - it won't help his spoken English, but will help him in lots of ways - good fun, too.
It's worth exploring the entire site; I know adult students who are fascinated by it.
