can anyone give me advice on how to stop my vax carpet cleaner filling the dirty water container with foam so quickly there's so much foam accumulating,I'm using 1001 carpet cleaner in the correct proportions but having to stop and empty the dirty water part every 2 mins;

For more on marking an answer as the "Best Answer", please visit our FAQ.The 3 in 1 stuff usually works fine. I know Vax used to make a defoamer but don't think you can get it these days. Were the carpets down before you moved in. If so maybe bits of them had been hand cleaned in the past and this does cause the foam you are talking about. The only thing I can think of is to put something in the dirty water tank that will kill the foam as it goes in Vinegar may do it.
For some years I have owned a commercial carpet cleaner. I just use any de-foamer.They all seem to do what they are supposed to.
There's nothing more annoying than your machine cutting out because of the foam.
