Please could you tell me why the welsh pronounce ears as "years"? Is that how you personally say it? I hate it so much lol. My husband is welsh but makes a conscious effort to pronounce it properly. My daughter spends a fair bit of time with my in laws and started to pick it up, I have since corrected her and will continue to do if I hear her say "years" again.

Thanks

Hi MC
it's those dratted dialects again, I quite like the Welsh accent, very musical
I used to find this funny when I was little as my gran used to say new `ears day and I thought it meant we got new ears on that day

Hi bobbi - the welsh accent gets on your nerves a bit when you've been living here for a couple of years lol. I'm quite lucky that my husband doesn't really have a welsh accent and so far, my daughter is quite english sounding.

I work with a woman who says "goying" instead of going - that makes me laugh!
I really quite like all accents MC, I love the Liverpool one and both N/S Irish ones
I'm an Englishman living in Wales and have been here for Ears ! :-)))
on beautiful Anglesy , red ;-(
Hello Bobbi, yes here I am living out in the sticks, but it is beautiful !!
I remember sitting outside in my Dad's garde looking across to Puffin Island..

Can I add one? That Welsh girl that does the One Show, can't pronounce the letter U. She says things like "ewnion" instead of "Union". It grates on my ears.
Lol! I'm Welsh and do exactly the same, my husband who is a Cardiff boy says it 'properly', but to be honest dialect gives us our identity and I personally love some of the way the valley Welsh pronounce things!

Love it!
thats what makes folk interesting I think, their dialect
I think I have deep seeted dislikes for the Welsh which I need to address. We lived in Wales when I was little and I started school there. The teacher wouldn't let me go to the loo unless I asked in Welsh. I've resented her ever since.......time to let go Milly.
There is a marked difference between North Wales Welsh and South Wales Welsh when they speak, not only Welsh but English as well.
South Wales is like a foreign land to North Walians !! lol
then a bit like here red,,,lol
I fully understand your past problems milly, even I as an Englishman have problems with the Bigots ( Nationalists ).
bigotry has to be one of the worst attributes in a person I think, Red
Thankfully the Welsh/English Border isn't far away and I can escape to Chester or Liverpool within about an hour Bobbi ! lol
My neighbour is from Jamaica - I rest my case.
