which is a feature designed to get the product talked about - so they do it by making a scenario so stratospherically irritating that you can't wait to unburden your loathing to your colleagues at work the next morning.
This was cleverly hit on by the 'Michael Winner' insurance ads, complete with a phrase which has passed into modern parlance, and sent their revenue into the stratosphere as a result.
Hats off to Halifax, who found 'Howard' and put him in an ever more preposterous set of circumstances while never letting us forget how hatefully nerdy he is, but we can’t give full vent to our spleen for thought of being seen as racist!
And now to Halifax again, who have lulled us all into a soporiphic sense of loathing with the 'radio show' adverts full of smiling yuppies you'd love to microwave for ten minutes but ...

It starts with that simpering fop banging on about ISA's, when the woman next to him mutters "Isa Isa baby ..." and presses a button that revives 'Ice Ice Baby' again, when the scars had just about healed where you tried to pull your own head off after hearing the Jedward version ...
but it gets better!
Then she starts making a move with her head like a pigeon that's choking on a piece of bread while trying to run away from a hoodie with an airgun.
Add to that the soppy look she gives the guy - like she's trying to smile, but has just been shot in the back with a poisoned arrow, and that song is still playing in the background ...
I can feel my glasses melting onto my face I'm so angry - and I'm writing this .....!!!!!

Adverts have no impression on me - they certainly dont make me want to go out and buy the product / service .
However , those who advertise must beleive / have evidence that it influences people and increases sales .
I think it's subliminal isn't it - the next time you need a product - you may recall the advert from a particular company and consider buying their product
Otherwise why would companies have large advertising budgets
