Habits you got from your parents

I just went to make a cuppa for me and the other half, and once again she had left an empty kettle which I had to refill.

Not a hardship I know, BUT a habit obtained from my mum was to always have water in the kettle because you'll never know when you may not have water to fill it and this way you will always be able to have a cuppa.

It's a habit obtained from the old days years ago when pipes bursting in winter were common but it has stuck. I wouldn't mind but a few months ago we were in such a position because building work up the street caused a burst pipe and our water was off for hours. Fortunately I had made the last cuppa so we had a full kettle and at least got a couple of cups from it.

Rant over.

My mum always leaves the kettle empty! It fries my brain! I do get this thing from her though. We have to say "eh" and the end of nearly everything we say. I think it's just to make sure people as listening, eh? Were the only two people that do it and it does really irritate people, eh? :D lol
I never fill my kettle as it takes too long to boil and uses more electricity.
I always leave the kettle empty because i like to use fresh water for hot drinks and only boil enough so as to save fuel
Me too woofgang.
Making the bed almost as soon as I get out of it...

Keeping enough food in the house to feed the 5,000 just in case someone turns up unexpectedly... like who...An entire regiment???

Sleeping in knickers in case anyone sees you in the night

I don't think my mum had any good habits that I would have considered useful to me, I probably go out of my way to do the exact opposite to her because of the (non) relationship we had/have.

oh god, i hate that too my hubby nearly blew our friends kettle by not checking yesterday i went spastic as this kettle isnt a cheap one lol. Me I like to make sure theres enough in the kettle to make a brew without the faff of getting soaked whilst filling it and to make a hot water bottle for my littly.
All ways being prepared is something i got from my dad, so in the car is a foldable shovel travel blankets bottle of water, screen wash spare screen hose pipe (ours likes to pop off) tow rope spare bulbs and fuses. luckily our car has void in the back by the boot for this stuff lol.
From my mum i got the phrases here you go and are you alright? Drives people mad when i say them.
I keep a jug of water next to the kettle so I can always make a drink if there's a water problem...and the chlorine evaporates before I need it.

I always swear when I sneeze (I just did)...that's a habit from my mum :o)
Got drinking and partying from my Dad!!
I love the smell of dettol. I always remember my mum adding a little drop of dettol to her bowl while having a strip wash. I do the same thing that she used to do. I never think of putting in in my bath water but always in the sink while having a quick wash down lol I should sprinkle it on my pillow
Warming my backside by the fire - not quite like my mam though - she lifted her skirt up at the back to get the full benefit. being over 6' tall and nearly 17 stone, a skirt doesn't suit me (legs like tree trunks)!!!
2shortplanks: the water at your kitchen tap should be coming directly from the mains and not from a storage tank. Water for making tea should be drawn freshly from the mains and used as soon as it boils for the best-tasting tea. (I've never drunk tea, so this info is from "experts"). Water left in a kettle becomes "flat" because it loses dissolved oxygen.
Swearing unfortunately.
Rinsing the kettle with cold water after every use helps prevent limescale.

Tea or coffee made with reboiled water is just yukky
When making up the bed I always put the pillowcase opening end (envelopes mam calls them) to face outwards as it helps your bad dreams go away.

Always prepared for the car to break down, so much so my boot is almost full coats, 5 LTS screen wash, 4 large cans of di-icer, (the list goes on) even in summer.

Always have nice clean (never discoloured) matching underwear on for when a bus will run me over.

Always have a clean front door so people think your home inside is clean.
Headbutting people who disagree with me ;-)
Kitchen tap water doesn't come from a water tank (well it shouldn't) like gingebee says and also as gingebee says tea should always be made with freshly drawn water that has only been boiled once. I always empty the kettle completely before making fresh tea. Mr LL annoys me because he keeps reboiling the same water and doesn't make the tea as soon as the water comes to the boil!! grrr

Habits from my Mum - loads of them according to Mr LL, including being a control freak!!!
Not using the end of the cucumber, have to cut it down to the bit where the pips start; something my mum got from her mum apparently!
