This might sound like a weird question but here we go!
I've been prescribed peppermint oil capsules for IBS relief and they do help. Depending on which chemist I go to, I get different makes. Colpermin and Mintec have been absolutely fine. However, the last couple of times I've gone to a different chemist and been given Apercap. Every now and again when I've taken one, I get a weird sensation in my chest - almost like the opposite of heartburn - it feels cold and minty (told you it sounded weird). And sometimes I can breathe mint when I draw in a breath. It goes away eventually but I just wondered what might cause this - seeing as Colpermin and Mintec never had that effect!
I'll be going to a different chemist again to make sure I don't get these from now on but was just curious why it happens.
Buffymad, it doesn't sound weird at all. I get the same minty thing when I take Apercap (menthol burps do NOT taste good)
I spoke to my GP who said she'd never heard of this before as they aren't meant to break down until they're in the bowel, but now she writes Colpermin on the prescription as the pharmacist can then only give me that brand (which doesn't cause the problem)
Bushbaby - I'm glad its not just me! And yes, I'd read that they're only meant to dissolve when they're "where they're meant to be"!! That's okay, I'll make a point from now on not to get this brand.
