neck/ shoulder pain
10 Answers
Hi. Over the past few weeks or so I have been plagued with an annoying pain radiating from the right side of the back of my neck to my shoulder. I have put it down to old age and joints wearing out ,hence the sad old git title and I accept that as part of the ageing process. However the pain is always there but it does seem to diminish as the day goes by or I just get used to it.The neck pain doesn't restrict my movements but as I say it is always there like a nagging toothache. It doesn't seem to bother me while I sleep but it is quite accute when I start the day and then the pain subsides somewhat as the day goes by.to repeat myself as above All help is good.

Do you use a laptop regularly? Or sleeping regularly on your right side all night? I ended up seeing a osteopath when I had a problem sounding like yours. I went a few times and he pulled me about a bit, and suggested putting something cold on the area. I used one of those pads filled with barley (I think) that can be heated in the microwave or chilled in the freezer. I used it chilled on the area every day. After a week or two, the pain disappeared. I have also bought a new pillow to sleep on. Hope this helps you.

I have had this sort of pain for some time and then a lump came up on my shoulder. Naturally, I was panic stricken so saw the doctor. He reckons it is just another lump to add to my osteo arthritis lumps. I hope he is right, but it is very painful at times, mostly in the mornings when I have probably been lying on it. Affects my neck and upper arm as well. Old age I think sog.
sad old git age does'nt always have anything to do with it.
I started with these symptoms in my teens, after a few years of giving me different pills my doctor said I was imagining it. It took until I was 21 before another doctor gave me an xray which showed Spondylosis.
Over the years (I'm 49 now) I tried all sorts of things. As you say your worse in the morning I would start by changing your pillow, I found the memory foam ones help. Also some painkillers in the morning might help.

Thank You all!!. You have all been extremely helpful,I do tend to sleep mainly on my right side.... The idea about changing pillows sounds good so I will try that first. Arwyn I'm not sure I've heard of memory foam pillows but I will find out and give them a try. Once again thank you all and all the very best to you.
