Am I out of date with the lingo on the streets?

The schools started back today, and my friends' daughter went back last night. She says she "shotgunned" a top bunk. I asked her what that involved, and apparently to "shotgun" something is just like to "bagsy" something.

Is it just me who totally did not know that ??

You just isn't up-to-date wiff it all, innit.
I'm glad I don't have to call shotgun anymore since i'm the one driving!

But you're right, I think it's Americam. When I was wee it used to be "taxed". Maybe just a Scottish thing.
Question Author
"taxed"?

I hadn't heard that one, either.

I knew about riding shotgun. I think. Is that ... in the passenger seat? Or is that a really stupid thing to say?
Question Author
ginge ... I just isn't, is I, man.

LOL
i always thought shotgun was used in the context of a wedding, shotgun wedding meaning the groom had to be persuaded to the altar.
I can't get some of the lingo either, but then i don't really care, i had enough once inadvertently listening to a record which had more mother f***ers in it than it had other words, including the word n***er, i'm no prude, but found it tedious and offensive.
are you sure she knew what she meant by shotgunned.....?

it is something akin to 'squirting' but probably not as she intended.
And you found out the meaning of clunge yesterday.

Just watch the inbetweeners, it will tell you all you need to know.
Riding shotgun is right.. it's moved on to lot's of things now, like bunk beds lol :-)

We used "taxed" mostly for swings and stuff like that. You would race to the park and first to shout it should have gotten the swing. It would almost always end up in a fight when you got there anyway!

em ...

I still can't work out why Jessie J (whom I actually quite like) used the word "motherf***er" in her single "Do It Like A Dude". Whenever it's played on the radio, it's bleeped out. Whan she sings live, she moves the microphone away from her mouth. So the song is never heard in full, except on her CD, so why did she think those were good lyrics???
i was in a record store and this vile piece of crap was playing, and no kidding when i say every line was offensive, don't know the singer, but it was a black guy by the sound of it. One of those oh so charming rappers of old, who talk about women as ho's and suchlike
swearing sells singles unfourtunatley, its a a sign of the times! managed to wean mr f off his liking of rap music used to do my head in!
Question Author
I'm not anti swearing.

I'm not a prude.

So swear on your records if they're going to be played on some late night, adult radio show.

But if your target radio show is, say ... Capital Radio?? ... why make a record that they can't play without several bleeps of silence? Your record is never played in its original form, so why bother recording it in that form?

well that will make for a quiet night here then - think Iwill head off for my pint of lime and soda : - (

Why do I do this abstinence thing......but then the waist already looks a tad better.
No Bunk Beds in the school my Kids go to.
Aside from the meaning you mention ankou everyone also uses ' shotgun' in the same way you would use bagsy or dobsin- to secure a place. so you can 'shotgun' a chair or say something like 'I'm shotgunnin the bathroom tomorrow first because I've got to be out early', so I think she meant it in that context which at least around here (Worcestershire) is the way it's often used.
