There isn't a mechanism to reduce footballers' salaries. Also, I would argue that they're not actually overpaid.

Adele, Madonna, Katy Perry and Coldplay make a lot of money - but that's because they entertain hundreds of thousands of people/

Same with footballers.

If Sky and other broadcasters are raking in profits from showing games, then this has to be reflected in the salaries of the players.

Perhaps if all these over-paid prima donnas, were to take a reduction in their salaries, then perhaps it wouldn't cost the ordinary man and woman in the street, so much to watch them perform?

They are a commodity AOG.

The market charges the highest it can get. Sky are getting enough subscribers, ITV are selling enough advertisers and the clubs are selling enough seats. No business in their right mind would reduce the price when the demand is there.

I don't think it is money that is the route of racism in football.

One thing about it is, although they get paid these enormous amounts they don't seem to be able to hold on to it for long so maybe most of it will get back into the economy.
