When someone is described as old news, what does this mean?

Well, I should think it is a put-down,  like saying 'you're history' ...... 'gone'......'something in the past.'.. 'finished' ....

It means no one is interested in them any more.
It indicates "been there, done that."  As when someone is excited to share with you a hot piece of office gossip, but it turns out you heard about it last week.  "Oh, that's old news," would be your response.
