Ok, so the other day I replaced a pane of glass for an elderly lady (single pane of glass in a wooden framed window).
I went back later that evening to be paid and knocked on the door.
When she came to the door, she told me that I hadn't finished the job and pointed out that there was in fact half of the putty missing. It looked like it had been deliberately scraped out, 'cos I def remember finishing it all off nice and neatly.
Anyway, I had my tools on me, so I finished it off (again!!), pointed the window out to her, asked her if she was happy and took the payment.
Well, I noticed that there were some kids playing nearby, so I thought I'd hang around, in case it was them that had scraped the putty out for a prank and they might do it again.
I didn't have to wait too long (about 10 - 15 mins) before my waiting paid off.
I couldn't believe my eyes - a wild animal jumped up onto the window sill and started eating the putty.
What would you do ?????
Would you go back and tell the old lady (bear in mind, she might not believe you, as she might think that you're trying to fleece her for more money), or would you just leave it 'cos you've been paid and she saw the job was ok when you left ????
Long time ago I had something similar except that it was birds pecking at the new putty.
Eventually solved by the glaziers putting some sort of tape over the putty till it hardened sufficiently.
would you go back and tell her, offer to redo the putty and cover the area so it doesn't happen again? that way, both of you are satisfied with the job x
With all this rain, I would think she may well have a leak very soon - I would go back, tell her what you saw, replace it and perhaps mix some foul tasting stuff with the putty to put off the wild animal. In hindsight perhaps you could have filmed the animal on your phone to have shown her.
Tuff one, because obviously she may not believe you.
