What a nasty thing to do! I am always baffled by the mentality of these people who can do that sort of thing to animals!!!

Worry not, they will grow back : )
I am certainly not a cat lover, but what a sick thing to do, thats creepy.  I think I heard that cats use their whiskers to judge distances when running through cat flaps etc, so you might want to keep an eye on him for a while and make sure he (or she) is not bumping into things.
Hi Foxglove. Yes they will. Someone did that to my cat once too and he was fine.

Thanks to all, I feel a little more at ease. I wish the whole world was as kind and supportive as the people I 'meet' on this website. I shall tell the cat the good news at once ... and then try not to think about the idiot who maimed him.

Hi Foxglove,

I have cats(luckily I live far enough away from neighbours) but as everyone else has said, they will grow back;but poor puss will be a bit disorientated for a while as,(as myron says) they use their whisker to judge (side to side) distances.

My cats send a recovery "MIAOW" to yours!

The stories I have heard from people who live in town areas about what people have done to animals and for fun at that. It's sickening. Like mystress I am far from neighbours and luckily, anyway, our cat hardly ever leaves the garden (which is large).
People can be so sick it makes you wonder what life is all about.

Hope your cat's whiskers grow back soon. Poor mog!

Hi Foxglove - When I was little, my brother lit an old gas/water copper/boiler. Unfortunately, he didn't realise that our cat Tommy was fast asleep underneath it. There was a woosh of flames & poor Tommy ran out, minus his whiskers & some of his fur. He soon got over it & was fine.
Cruel swine whoever they are. What pleasure do people get out doing things like this.I do hope your cat will soon be O.K.
I guess the fact that they use whiskers to judge distances might explain why he is a bit confused!
Hi Foxglove, just saw your question. That happened to my sister's cat also, and although he definetely wasn't happy about it,he was fine, and was able to carry on as usual. As the others said, all whiskers grew back, and they were as beautiful as ever!
Let's hope that the people who did this will receive their comeuppance in one way or another. I am a firm believer in 'what goes around, comes around'.

What wicked thing to do to a defenseless animal, the person who has done this must no compassion or brains, I can understand your anger, 11yrs ago I rescued a female cat which had, had her whiskers burnt off, and she'd had been doused with washing up liquid & bleach. We found her an excellent home, was loved dearly and spoilt rotten. I truely agree with honkytonkman "what goes around, comes around". :-)
