It has been banded about recently about lowering the age of consent, before we consider this shouldn't they first lower the age of responsibility?

I am sure most would agree that such killers no matter how old, should when found guilty be given life sentences.

Obviously we do not yet know the age of the killer or killers of this young lad, but it matters not what age they are, the time has come for such knife killers to suffer the full consequences for their crimes.

The police believe the attacker was between 16 and 18 years old in this case, so lowering the age of responsibility is not relevant.

As far as I'm aware the age of Criminal Tesponsibility in England and Wales is 10.

A person of 16 can be detained for "life" as de facto can a child of ten. The age when a child was deemed to have criminal responsibility used to be 8, so the world has obviously gone to pot ! I blame lefty liberal do-gooders

the killers of James Bulger were young, they were not detained for life, though some think they should have been. Hard to say locking up a ten year for life is the right approach, however if the age in law says they are responsible then it would be unlikely they would serve a life term.

James Bulger was not the child who committed the crime in that case Fred, he was the 2 year old victim.

as daffy said, James Bulger was the victim, not the criminal, his injuries were so severe that even today it's hard to know what to think about the boys that did it.

Some of you were quick to point out that the age of responsibility has nothing to do with this case, why else does one think that I added "Obviously we do not yet know the age of the killer or killers of this young lad"?

Of course it hasn't I know that, it was just a chance I took to make a suggestion seeing that quite a few of these stabbings are done by youngsters and we witness the law handing out little more than slapped wrists and notification that the young criminal cannot be named because of his or hers age etc.

To me, a slapped wrist might be a community service order, or perhaps six months in jail.

The words 'slapped wrist' is a popular term used for someone getting an inappropriate term of punishment, such as the creature in this case.

Served just four years of an eight years sentence, for killing a Damiola Taylor, seems to fit that criteria.

Incidentally, I was going to put "for killing a fellow human being", but classing such a creature as a human being is taking things much too far.
