I Know We Should All Open All Our Post......
but most days ...Thursdays for me... it's 'junk'...y'know get your sofa covered... have some blinds/curtains... save yet another child.... I always scan before recycling.... but now getting post which seems junk because the env. is marked with either huge charity postmark, or, indeed 'sponsered ' by a charity which makes it APPEAR like a charity appeal.....so want, I'M AFRAID to chuck it in recyc...... like I say, I look at all before binning, but this am got a cheque in an env, which, if I hadn't checked I would have discarded.....env. ob 'sponsered' by a charity...but I may have thrown away with rest of stuff your comments appreciated...

So since then I make myself look through it all though it bores me big time. But have sympathy to the postman having to post this stuff - he gets paid to do it so it is making money for him.
The way I feel mail can build up for days before I open stuff. But I think one should always make the effort to find the enthusiasm to open each anyway. A few years back I was putting charity envelopes in a pile and just could not be bothered with them. After a few years (!) I decided I really must sort them as the crate was overflowing, so opened each in turn. Turned out one wasn't the charity envelope it looked. It was the hospital appointment I was very miffed they hadn't bothered to send me a couple of years previously !
Charities are not unknown for taping a couple of pence to the letter to make you feel guilty. I've even had a well known animal one send me a tee shirt ! And small bits & bobs from poor villages in the world are not uncommon too. As well as Xmas stuff. Wish they'd not send stuff really. I used to give via post but as I found it difficult to give to one and not another, so ended up sending small amount to a large number of them, which they then wasted by sending me more begging letters on a regular basis. I don't encourage that method any more.
I return junk mail to the sender if they have been so kind to enclose a pre-paid envelope. It costs THEM money!
I also get begging letters from charities - again I return these, often including the "freebie" that they enclose. I tell them that I don't want their mail, and that I don't support any one charity over another.
