Now that winter is well and truly upon us and the clothing for dealing with such inclement temperatures becomes increasingly garish, do you have anything odd/funny/weird/wacky that you wear to keep away the winter chill but is a source of hilarity for your friends/family?

That's my hat above, it's a source of amusement to young ChillDoubt that the 'old man' wears such a monstrosity but given its Cold War significance (no pun intended) I'm rather fond of it.

I did used to wear a rather fetching tweed cap in inclement weather - but being referred to as 'the old git in the cap' got a bit wearing eventually and I upgraded to a Berghaus beanie ... ... so now I'm 'the old git in the burglar hat'.

Years ago, the first item of clothing that I would put on before going cross-country skiing would be a string undershirt, or singlet as you call them. It kept me remarkably warm, with the other layers of clothing of course, skiing in minus 20 and more conditions. I can no longer find them on the market...I miss them.
I no longer have mine to show and tell, Chill but I can tell... When I had to leave my job the children were wonderful til one said...

We'll miss you MrsG...you are well funny....it was great in the winter when you used to come to school wearing that daft hat just to make us laugh.

And there was I thinking I was the bee's knees in my big furry hat... :-(
Get your cammo basque out G.
By the way, I like the hat, for some reason it makes me think of Gorky Park:) What is the insignia?

Okay....it matches the bike...but not today...I'm being poorly...

I like the hat too, Chill...a bit of bling is all that's needed....x

Ah, not my personal hat that, stewey.

I've got a KGB badge on mine.

The hat itself I got from a young Russian soldier at Checkpoint Bravo in Berlin in exchange for 20 cigs and a can of Coke.
Initially, looking at your avatar, I thought it was a fez!
Hello, whiskeryron. Yes, that is the item; however, I can't find them on Canadian or US sites.
An interesting history, CD.
Only til tomorrow, Psyb....with luck or i won't be going to the theatre with a cough....and even worse I am out of whiskey and rum toddies are nowhere near as good.....
i've just bought a furry band to go over my ears they all broke into hysterical laughter and said i was not to wear it in their company .
Chill....that's a great story........☺
Gness, a bottle of Bushmills Black winging its way to you xx
Bliss....thank you, psyb...x
stewey,,,,,,,,,,,,my mum used to knit string vests for my brothers, :)
Perhaps I should order some from her, anneasquith:) They keep a layer of warm air right next to your skin, and the next layer of clothing traps it there. Some people, when they saw it, laughed and said "How in hell is that flimsy looking thing going to keep you warm!?"
