I had two lovely Yankee Candles at Christmas which are both now finished. I have got all the wax out but cannot remove the little metal post bit at the bottom. I would love to reuse the jars but they may have to go in the recycle bin. Any ideas?

I have tried standing the jar in boiling water. That doesn't seem to work.

Have you tried putting boiling water inside the jars? Maybe a bit of washing up liquid might help shift them too?
It's pretty stiff glue - you might need to soak it for a couple of days to soften it.
Its easy Tilly. Dry the jars and stand them in the freezer overnight. Next day the remaining wax and the wick base will fall straight out. Not that I am a Yankee maniac or anything.......

No, I haven't put water inside. That's a good idea. Why didn't I think of that? Thank you both.
You could try putting some nail varnish remover in them, just enough to cover the base of the metal posts, it may soften the glue enough so you can remove the posts.
There isn't glue....not in mine anyway......
How are the posts held in then, woofgang ?.

Nail varnish remover might work, Yont. I'll give that a try if the soaking and the freezing doesn't work.

Woof, are you saying that the metal post bit at the bottom isn't glued on?
I have used many many (too many) yankee candles over the years and, to my knowledge, none of them have had the wick base glued in the jar. Every time I have been able to get the jar completely clean by putting the jar in the freezer then tipping out the wax. Now the base may have been glued in and the freezer removed the glue as well....what i am saying is that putting it in the freezer works :-)......just sayin......

I'll try that then, woof. Thank you.
ha! now I will find that Yankee have suddenly changed their methods and I'll look like an idiot again!!!!
woofgang, when you take the candle holders out of the freezer do you snap the posts off or do they just fall off ?.

Good question, Yont.
i have always put mine in still with a plug of wax with the holder embedded in it. you shake the jar or gently loosen the edge of the wax plug and the plug loosens and falls out, wick holder and all. If the wax plug is bigger than the mouth of the jar then the edges can be broken to make it smaller.
I get mine out with an old knife - perhaps that has been banned now due to elf and safety
If there is glue then the freezing is making that brittle enough to come away with the wax plug.
possible tony....possible......
woofgang, if the freezing works then it doesn't' matter how it works if it does the job.
