Random question of the day from me -

I would call this coming Friday (25th April) "this Friday" and the following Friday (2nd May) "next Friday".

I had an interesting conversation today with a client who said that she takes "this Friday" and "next Friday" as being the 25th April.

(Are you still reading?)

Am I the only one that takes this and next as two different things?

Am I even making sense?

Does anyone else really care?

I know what you mean, I would say this Friday for the one coming, and next Friday for the one next week.... It seems some would take the next as meaning the next one coming. Next always means next week!
I use the same terms as you. This Friday is this coming friday. Next Friday is Friday next week. I think my terms confuse people though.

Hugh sigh of relief!

I was starting to think I was talking rubbish, she looked at me like I had lost my mind!
I'm with all 3 of you, exactly my terminology.
I see your point, 2sp, and you are making sense. But I suppose THIS Friday is the NEXT Friday. You'd have to clarify the date with your Client, to make sure you both had the same date in mind...
Yep, I agree with 2sp.
I know what you mean, and I say exactly the same as you. This Friday is - well - this coming, Friday, and next Friday is the one after that. OH thinks the same as your client - Next is The Next One.

OH also has a habit of counting the day from midnight, so if we get into bed 00.05 and I ask him what he's doing tomorrow, i.e. the coming day, he'll tell me what he's doing the day after that, on the basis that the tomorrow I'm talking about is actually today.....(have you lost the will to live yet?)
Agree here too
say a week Friday to avoid confusion. maybe.
To avoid confusion I always say something like 'A week on Friday'

This and next are the same to me.
On Saturday it would still be next Friday to me, but come Monday it would be this Friday, so then next would be the following week.

I'm so glad I ask stuff like this on here, you all tend to agree with me!

Question Author
OK, most of you agree with me which is good enough for me!
// you all tend to agree with me //

Yep, I agree with that, too.
Question Author
Glad we're in agreement about that too, JJ.
Just give the date?
I just tend to think the week starts on a Monday, so the Friday before Sunday is still this week.
On Saturday April 26th next Friday is 9th May

?

Read the op, the dates are included in it, just specify the date you mean (to the client).
Question Author
Sometimes it's not that easy to find a date when you are having a conversation with a client in the middle of a field!

It's just a general question, not just about talking to clients.
