LOL...I don't mind phrases which are sort of descriptive...like, went on autopilot etc, but the one which bugs me is when somone agrees with what you say by uttering ..... "this is it!"...GRRRR...commoner.

It's not rocket science!  This phrase really annoys me as does:- anyone talking about an experience as a 'journey'.

It's the ever increasing fashion of using "can I get" instead of "May I have" aaagggggghhhh. As in can I get a pint of lager, I always want to reply " I suppose it's possible".

i also hate that thing people do with their fingers-meaning inverted commas !!  errrgggh. The end of the day really bugs like- "at the end of the she`s my mother"  --so in the beginning of the day she`s not their mother makes?? no sense.And when people say "swear on my mums life" its not as if their mums gonna drop dead if their lying.

hi missmooncat   another thing people say that I find amusing , when the schools are ready to close for a holiday period it tickles me when we talk of children 'breaking up'  !!!    No they don't ,their arms and legs do not fall off !!  Apart from that I hate some of the others too.

I think that a lot of the one's that I regularly use would annoy people - "Doing my head in", "...and I was like...", and constantly saying everything is "Cool" perhaps being the most common offenders. I also use the inverted finger commas occasionally and say "Can I get...", inavariably in pubs (sorry Loosehead!). However, I'm using them in an ironic post-post modern way, so that's ok.

In Marks and Spencer there's an "escalator up" and an "escalator down".  To escalate is to rise, so the word up is not necessary, the word down creates a contradiction in terms.

Also to say "drop down" - how could it drop up?  "Fall pregnant" is another pet hate of mine too, it's as if you're saying the person is unfortunate or even "don't jump off that cliff, you might fall pregnant!"
