Buslanes

I received a fine this morning about my going onto a bus lane at 2.30pm last week. I never hardly go into town but remember this and they have sent me a photograph. I can't believe it - in order to cross town I did sit on this buslane as there were no other roads to take me across this stretch - where my brother lived and his kids.

Am just after doing the exact run and now realise you have to get away from this buslane - get into another road as if you were going back home, veer to the left for a lane to get back onto a correct road so to speak.

God help them all those that drive in the morning it must be actually choc a bloc.

Was telling my neighbour to avoid this herself and she was telling me her friend's mother and father were waiting to pick their daughter up at 2.30am from a dance etc in the actual city centre and got a fine. Apparently city centre is 24 hour zone - this I simply cannot believe. Unreal.

Even putting one wheel in bus lane is an offence, no time limit to it.
Only busses and registered taxis allowed.

So is that stretch effectively a bus road (ie for buses only) rather than a bus lane, jenny?

I have paid it right away via phone £45 if you pay now and £90 if you pay later. All digital talk via phone - anyway I was in the wrong but I truly didn't know - now I do.

Bus lanes are a pain. And I don't see why taxis can use them, as, at best, they only achieve what private cars do: getting one carload from A to B.

To right, OG. There are several in my neck of the woods, they must make the council a fortune in fines.

Taxis ( the proper ones,not 'mini cabs') and busses are classed as 'Public service vehicles' and can use 'Bus Lanes'

My local newspaper has recently reported that drivers are getting fined for moving into a bus lane to allow emergency vehicles through. So, here's a reminder, DON'T be tempted to use the bus lane in such an instance, let the emergency vehicle use the bus lane.

MantaRay, That has happened in my local city and the fines have been quashed on appeal.

that I was wondering I deffo was on a buslane clear to be seen - but was I breaking the law - should I have paid that £45. anybody know. it is paid and all - but just wondering should I have

JJ in the Uk, yes. The people who have had the fine remitted were able to prove that they had moved briefly to the bus lane to let an emergency vehicle attending an incident (lights and sirens going) get through.

I am glad you told me about moving into buslanes when the emergency crew want to come through. Now in future I will go into bloody static and they can do what they want. I would have gone to buslanes for emergency crews. Now they can vere around me - or crash into me if they want cos I will fight for that corner that there were buslanes around me - thanks for that warning Woofie.
