Air Gun/rifle Disposal

We have an air rifle and an air pistol in our loft which belong to our youngest.
He's not mentioned them for about fifteen years and I can't see him wanting them in the future.
We don't know what to do with them as we don't want them in the house any more nor do we want to sell them. Nor, for various reasons which I'm not prepared to go into, do we want to remind our son that they're in our house. We're contemplating taking them to the local police station and letting them do the deed.
What would you do?
Thanks.

Definitely, take them to the police station.
That's exactly what I would do. No reason why you can't speak to your local police for advice first, though - they may come and collect them
Yes, local Police.
I agree with the police.
Bash them with a big hammer then in metal recycling bin at tip.
David's idea is much better than walking into a police station with a gun/rifle.

Calling the police first is a good idea, hadn't thought of that, even better if they came to collect them.
We don't really want to have them in the car, and can imagine that turning up at the police station carrying a gun each might not be a good idea...
You can let the police know you are bringing them.

All thought welcome jambutty :)
A mate of mine found a sten gun with a load of ammo in his late fathers loft. He was in the home guard during the war. He phoned the police and they came round to dispose of it.
The police are happy to collect firearms. Providing you wrap the rifle securely and inform the police you are attending the police station you will be OK.
In the case of a sten gun or other old automatic weapon it would be advisable never to touch it ,but get an authorised police firearms officer to check first and make safe. These cheap mass produced weapons were quite unpredictable in the wrong hands. :-(
My advice is to inform the police that you have these weapons and want to hand them in - they will then advise you to either take them to a police station or they will arrange to collect them from you. Although a licence is not require for thes weapons, they are classed as firearms so my guess is that they will arrange collection.
They are only air-guns - I'd take up target practice.
Only air guns - not long ago a teenage lad died after he was shot by a clown with an air rifle
Careful you might fall over while carrying a sharp spoon. Get a grip.
I am not a 14 yr. old boy! Had air guns for ages to shoot vermin. hc, please stop this - there are always exceptions - they must not be allowed to formulate the rules.
jourdain, ethandron have made it very clear they don't the guns in their house nor do they want anyone else to have them. That is their choice and the question was how to dispose of them.
