Instead of using the straining spoon to dish up the peas you got a few ladles of the pea juice.

In the mid to late 50s it was my job to queue up every Saturday for the fish and chip lunch. There were never mushy peas on the menu. This was NE England.

When I lived in Lancashire my favourite from the chippy was steak and kidney pudding, chips and peas with gravy.
I moved down to Gloucester and when I first went to a chippy and asked for pudding and chips I was met with a blank stare and a "What do you mean"?
I've often wondered where on the journey between Manchester and Gloucester the pudding stops being served!
