Wife said this to me today as we left a N.T property
"Home James and don't spare the horses". Neither of us could place the origin of this. Anyone?

I feel sorry for the horses
Well, you wouldn't want to be the spare horse.
That takes me back! It was one of my mother's many sayings together with "Is there enough blue sky to make a Dutchman a pair of trousers?"

Thanks. I always thought it came from Black Beauty by Anna Sewell. One lives and learns.
And a Blue sky was enough to make a sailor some trousers.
