How could the BBC destroy Simon Mayo's brilliant Drivetime show by lumbering him with dull-as-ditchwater Jo Whiley? Not forgiven!

I recently read that because all presenters on daytime radio 2 are male, the BBC decided there had to be female presenters on some of the programmes. If they add a token female to the Ken Bruce show then radio 2 will not be heard on my radio between 7am and 7pm. At the BBC the old saying "if it aint broke don't fix it" has been superseded by "if it doesn't need fixing break it".
It's a bad fit for a worse reason.
Jo Whiley is dreadful, that breathless cod-student enthusiasm - you're in your mid-forties woman, act your age!
I quite like Simon Mayo, I can't believe he is happy having this foisted on him, but as a professional, he will make all the right noises.
I had serious reservations about Cerys Mathews taking over Paul Jones' Blues Show, but I have interviewed her at length about it, and she is not a 'token insert', she is a committed and knowledgeable blues fan, so I take back what I said about her in this context.
But as for the 'Simon And Jo Show', it's really not good, not good at all.

Jo Whiley is eveybody's mum. Calm and assuring. Pure comfort. All cocoa and slippers - the kind of nice old lady you meet in the supermarket check out. She loves children and will be much loved on the Friday children's request show. It is by this means that the BBC demonstrates it commitment to supporting equal rights for women. They should be given a chance should women to show that they can introduce music requests. Leave her alone.
