It was a really good night. We saw Brighouse, Black Dyke, Faireys, two Swiss bands and one from Denmark, amongst others. The great news is that my granddaughters' band, Rochdale Youth Brass, won the overral youth contest, beating the reigning European and Saddleworth Champions, Wardle Youth Academy, who spent their time showboating with their championship banners and failed to enter enough venues to qualify for the overrall prize. Each band must play at 6 venues to qualify, but Wardle only managed 5. In fairness, they are a brilliant band with really top young players and a treat to listen to, but the parents and the players themselves are so obnoxious and arrogant, it doesn't lend anyone to them for that. They actually won all the 5 venues they played at, which was no surprise, but they didn't have enough venues. Rochdale Youth won 2 venues and came 2nd in another 3, plus a deportment prize at Lees. They entered at 8 venues and had the best qualifying score to win the Youth Championship. A great result for them.

Squad, that piece is commonly known among the brass band community as "Orange Juice", because they didn't know how to pronounce it properly! Good, eh?

A nice band Minty. Well worthwhile you sponsoring them and well done to you for that.
Not only did some of those villages and collieries have excellent brass bands but also good football teams e.g Frickley Colliery.
