Utter, perhaps? 'Utter nonsense' = total nonsense and 'to utter' = to make a verbal expression. Is that the idea behind your question?
Question Author
Quizmonster, it is a garden plants quiz question. I have already posted it on Q & P but am not having much luck.
The full question is
Total verbal expression ( 6,6)
When I googled this phrase lots of religious sites come up, re prayers etc, I can only find a prayer plant, which obviously does't quite fit the clue. I will keep working on it.
Many thanks.
Adder's-tongue, perhaps
I like Marsh's answer and it is most probably what the quiz-setters are looking for. However, it is an extremely loose clue, if so! Certainly 'tongue' in the sense of 'language' might be considered a 'verbal expression', but how can 'adder's' conceivably mean 'total'? (Yes, I know that 'add' and 'total' are synonyms but 'adders' and 'total' aren't!)
I agree, Monster. It could, equally loosely, be Summer something but I'm not up on plants.

Agree that Summer might be in the answer or there is Silver Tongue if you prefer the tongue in the answer. presume this is for the WI quiz
