Every time I hear a politician say “Now let me be absolutely clear”, I can practically guarantee the next thing I hear is going to be a lie.

237SJ, they all seem to say it when they're trying to sound convincing - I've just heard one of them - that's what prompted the question.

Every sentence starting with "so"- seems to be compulsory for anyone being interviewed on Radio 4 , particularly on Money Box and/or when trying to defend poor service/performance.

In restaurants when you make a perfectly reasonable request, like a standard drink and meal from the menu and the waiter says 'That's no problem at all!' Well, thank you so much.

and double phrases that were nearly identical as Tony Bliar and Gordie Broon used to drum up - long-winded IMO as well as being verbless sentences and sound-bite plays....examples being 'Tough on crime and tough on the causes of crime,' or 'British jobs for British workers'....
