My dear old Dad (now departed) always said "well it's got 2 chances to my 1" when he planted anything in the garden. I never understood it. Any suggestions?

Perhaps he meant something like - I've taken a chance by planting it, so it's got a chance of growing and a chance of not. Quirky.

Has anyone ever heard this saying before. (wish I learnt to type!!)

I thought this meant, I only have one chance meaning to die as that is the only option left!
