I Don't Often Lose My Temper But 'inspirational Quotes' Make My Blood Boil

I am a member of several online forums - local history, genealogy and other interests/hobbies and more and more people are posting cartoonish pictures with so-called inspirational quotes such as 'Every minute is precious, make them count'; 'A mother's love is unconditional, unconditionally love yours'. It makes me want to hurl my computer through the window. Thankfully I am able to quickly hide the posts.

Am I alone in my irrational hatred of such sentimental guff or do some people find inspiration or comfort from them?

Some people definitely do get comfort from them but I don't. Someone gave me a calendar with a quote for each month. I read them and then forget them.I find them a bit slick and "clever".
Does my nut in.

The one I really dislike is the 'You only get one mother, when she's gone, she's gone'

Errr...no one in my life has been cloned so there's only one of everyone.
Hc, I agree with you - as, I'm sure, do many others. There's an interesting article on the subject in today's Times supplement, magazine.
They are always a bit cringey, and often inaccurate.
Must admit I find them quite cringy.
Love you to the moon and back riles me
I tend to ignore them unless they're delivered by a man with a full beard, neck tattoos and a bun.

You know it's right when one of those cats is aquotin'. :-)
No you are not alone. I find them extremely annoying. If there is someone in a group I belong to who posts them regularly then I block them
They are much favoured in some AB threads. I have a friend who sends me them,,,,,,,,, I ignore them :-)
Very cringe worthy
It's when they spell them wrong as well!
I once knew someone who used to plaster his wall with them. I never knew whether to laugh at the irony or inwardly cringe.
That reminds me, ummmm: "Home is where the hearth is."
I wouldn't lose my temper over something like that.

Pleased I'm not alone in my dislike for them. I know it's irrational that they make my blood boil but it's an automatic response. :(

Neveracrossword - I'm tempted to subscribe to The Times to read the article.
I know what you mean - things like

"Leave means leave",

"Swamped with immigrants",

"Bent bananas backed",

"£3.5m to NHS",

"Take back control",

"Will of the people".

Just short soundbites which are all sentimental rubbish, mainly unfulfillable, but it takes in the gullible who are unable to comprehend anything more complex. Sadly, short slogans succeed:-)
Hc, there are some scary statistics in the article. There's a book just out, full of messages of 'hope, kindness and friendship'. It debuted at no 2 on the nonfiction bestsellers charts. Sales were initially expected to be 10,000, but they've had to order a further 115,000 copies to meet the demands of the UK market alone.
