Jim -my mother tongue is French. Both you and Jackdaw are correct ,in the fact it depends which part of France you come from (or Canada) how you pronounce words.
The Parisian French accent is very different from, for example, the Marseille accent. It's always best when speaking French as a foreign language that you stick to Standard French and I personally would give a very slight stress on the last syllable, but not too much as that sounds aggressive, like you were shouting for a naughty child. Equal stress would be quite acceptable as its a given name.
